Labinci and its countryside: life in a quiet Istrian village

By the Enjoy Istria team Published 2 min read

In short

Labinci is a small village in the hills about 11 km inland from Poreč, in the municipality of Kaštelir-Labinci. It is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, quiet at night, and Villa Bina has views over the countryside to the sea. A village restaurant is within walking distance, Baredine Cave is under 5 km away and the nearest beaches near Tar are about 9 km.

Two of our villas, Villa Bina and Villa Cvita Domenica, stand side by side in Labinci, a small village in the green hills behind Poreč. If you picture Istria as stone houses, vineyards and long views over olive groves to the sea, this is it.

Where it is

Labinci is in the municipality of Kaštelir-Labinci, about 11 km inland from Poreč. It sits roughly between Poreč, Novigrad and Višnjan, so the coast and the inland hill towns are both close.

Distances from the villas:

Place Distance
Village restaurant (Toni) about 850–900 m
Traktor Story museum about 4.4 km
Baredine Cave about 4.6 km
Beaches near Tar (Santa Marina) about 9 km
Poreč old town about 11 km
Novigrad about 12 km
Istralandia water park about 18 km
Pula Airport about 57 km

What the village is like

  • Quiet. Labinci is a residential village, not a resort. There is little traffic, and nights are dark enough to see the stars.
  • Rural. Vineyards, olive groves and fields of red earth surround the houses. In autumn you will see the grape and olive harvests.
  • Views. From the upstairs balconies of Villa Bina, you look over the countryside towards the sea.
  • Friendly. Neighbours are used to visitors; a dobar dan (good day) goes a long way. See our Croatian phrases.

Close to the villas

  • Baredine Cave, a show cave with a 40-minute guided tour, under 5 km away.
  • Traktor Story, a collection of old tractors and farm machines next to the cave.
  • Wine and olive oil producers in the surrounding villages. Look for prodaja (for sale) signs, or read our guides to Istrian wine and olive oil.
  • Višnjan, a hilltop village nearby, home to a well-known astronomical observatory.

The coast and the hill towns

From Labinci the sea is about 15 minutes away, at the beaches near Tar and Santa Marina, or around 20 minutes to the town beaches of Poreč. Inland, Motovun, Grožnjan and the Mirna valley are all within about 40 minutes.

Why we love it for groups

Because Villa Bina (up to 12 guests) and Villa Cvita Domenica (up to 8 guests) are next door to each other, two families or a big group can book both and be together while each keeps its own house and pool. Read two families, two villas.

Practical notes

  • You need a car. Buses do not serve the village well.
  • Shopping: do a big shop in Poreč on arrival; see our self-catering guide.
  • Evenings can be fresher than on the coast in spring and autumn. Villa Bina has a fireplace.
